OPENESS IN ARCHITECTURE — TRUE FREEDOM FOR A DESIGN

THE FEAR OF O P E N N E S S in DESIGN

It’s been just one month that I have started my internship in a firm and literally there are hundreds of experiences and reality awakers that I have come through, and amongst them is the one I am sharing with you now in this blog. Its nothing but the fear of openness in design, basically starting from the window and door designs.

As an architecture student, I cannot remember a single day our design studios where we actually feared giving huge openings for light and ventilation. moreover, we would get screwed for not giving huge openings…. and for a few it was the main part of designing, so called ENHANCEMENT.

Coming back to reality, clients in real life, that too in a country like INDIA, fear of giving huge openings ie: huge glass exposing windows which enhances the elevation in seconds. Also, we know that is one of the main features of CONTEMPORARY ARCHITECTURE, expecting the same thought in clients mind is really a challenging job. But when we analyse the whole situation and fear behind,

1 . Theft fear, as we see in movies… sorry even daily news , they break the plain glass and…

2. I think the first thought is more than enough for not choosing “THE” idea. so, what can be done? how can we still see normal 30x40 residences with contemporary beauty? How can huge openings be a part of everyone’s design? and of course, without those designed and ornamented grill system….

Franky speaking even I don’t have any idea regarding this “OPEN” discussion. but surely, I can come up with an idea before I complete my internship. As I am not ready to leave this topic here.
